Transport

Transport from/to Airport


Prague airport Ruzyne is approximately 20 km from the centre, located north-west to Prague. The airport is one of the biggest in the middle Europe and provides public domestic and international air traffic. Construction of the airport began in 1929. It was inaugurated in 1937. In the early 1980s the air traffic became stagnant. However, by the year 1992 the terminal had been reconstructed. Prague International Airport is currently operating 24 hours a day. Naturally, the airport is upgraded to have the capacity of millions passengers every year. The annual air traffic is rising every year.

To get to the city centre, you can take a taxi, which is more comfortable than public transport, but also at higher rate: 1 km cost app. 20 CZK

Be carefull as there are some ‚taxis‘ which do not have correctly measuring taxi-meter and the driver can charge you at higher rate.
Using public transport is a cheaper way how to get to the centre. All the buses providing transport from the airport will take you to metro (underground) station. Bus N° 119 will take you to the underground station Dejvicka (green Line A), it is just five stops from Museum station, which is located directly on the Wenceslas square. Bus N° 100 will take you to the underground station Zlicin (yellow Line B). Bus N° 179 will take you to the underground station Nove Butovice (yellow Line B). Bus N° 225 will take you to the underground stations Stodulky, Luka or Nove Butovice (yellow Line B). Do not forget to buy a transport ticket.

Trains


Prague has also many train stations, but 2 of them are mainly used for arrivals of international trains. First one is the main train station “Hlavni nadrazi” (Wilsonova street, Prague 2). It is approximately 5-10 minutes walking from the Wenceslas square. There is also an underground station (red line C) and it is just one station away from the Muzeum station. The other train station “Nadrazi Holesovice” (Vrbenskeho street, Prague 7) is mainly used for train Berlin- Prague-Bratislava/Vienna. There is also underground station (red line C) and it is 4 stops from Muzeum station. There are many other train stations within Prague. They belong to the Prague integrated transport system. It is possible to use some transfer tickets also for the trains within Prague. For details please visit information centre at the train station.

Buses


The main bus station is located at Florenc (Krizikova 4, Prague 8). It is open everyday from 5:00 to 23:00. There is also possibility of storing luggage, price 25 CZK per item per day. Services provided: reservation of tickets and seat-tickets for international and domestic buses, luggage storage. Prague public transport tickets


Tickets are valid for all means of transport, can be purchased from vending machines placed on bus and tram stations or in the underground stations. There are 2 kinds of tickets, transfer ticket which costs 20 CZK and non-transfer ticket which costs 14 CZK. The first one is valid from the moment you stamp it in a machine in metro entrance or in bus or tram machine for 75 minutes during the week and for 90 minutes during weekend and from 20:00 – 5:00 during week. The second one is a non-transfer ticket, and can be used for tram and bus for 20 minutes without changing the lines or in the underground for 5 stations, or 30 minutes. Tickets for children from 6 up to 15 years inclusive are at half price. Another possibility for buying the tickets is sale from the bus drivers. Such a sale provides just transfer tickets and moreover, at higher rate- 25 CZK for adults and 15 CZK for children. This sale is available only in the zone P.
Short-season tickets
When you wish to explore Prague for longer time, you may prefer short-season tickets- for 1, 3, 7 or 15 days. The prices are as follows: 24-hour ticket 24-hour ticket 80 CZK
72-hour ticket 220 CZK
168-hour ticket 280 CZK
360-hour ticket 320 CZK

These tickets should be also stamped in the stamping machines. But only once – at the first way! Ticket validity can be inspected. Penalty for using Prague public transport without valid ticket is 800 CZK which is reduced to 400 CZK in case of an on-the-spot payment.

Nostalgic line No. 91



Old Trams No. 91 leave Stresovice depot for a regular route from the end of March till November. The Line 91 runs through the historical city centre. You can take this special historical tramcar on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The Line provides transport every one hour in the afternoon (12:00-17:00). Fare for adults: 25 CZK. Children up to 10 years, prams with babies, servicemen, holders of ZTP cards (i.e. disabled persons) and pensioners over 70 years 10 CZK.

Funicular railway to the Petrín


To see Prague from the lookout it is possible to go the the Petrín hill. One way how to get to the top is to use the funicular railway. It was firstly opened in the year 1891. Due to the landslips, the tack was damaged. After the reopening in the year 1985, the funicular was included in the public transport system. The railway is located next to Ujezd tram stop. There are three stops on the 510 meters long route to the top of the hill: Újezd - Nebozízek - Petrín. To enjoy this special kind of transport, you have to use a public transport ticket, all types excluding non-transfer tickets. The funicular railway is open daily from 9:15 do 20:45 hrs, runs every 10 minutes in the summer season (April - October) and every 15 minutes in winter season.

Petrinska rozhledna - Petrin Tower
Petrin Tower was built in the year 1891 at the instance of Czech tourists club on the occasion of Prague exhibition anniversary. The tower is 5 times miniaturized Eiffel’s tower in Paris.
